Moving onto Intermediate Sewing Course
Moving onto more difficult sewing projects and how to work from a bought pattern and get it to fit you! The iSew Moving onto Intermediate Sewing Course furthers your sewing skils.
The Intermediate Sewing Course runs over 12 weeks and covers the following:
Lesson 1, 2 and 3 – Make a Shirt or Shirt Dress. Learn about collars, cuffs and the sleeve placket as well as how to to hide your seams in the back yoke.
At the beginning of the course we will go the Elegance Fabrics in Cavendish and choose and buy a pattern of your choice for the next project. Alternatively you can also find an online pattern which you can print and work from.
Lesson 4 – Garment of your choice. Working from a bought pattern. How to take your measurements, plot them onto the bought patterns size chart and then trace your correct size onto a separate piece of paper. What to measure before cutting the pattern out. Cut the pattern out and check that all pieces fit together.
Lesson 5 – Cutting and sewing up a mock garment.
Lesson 6 – Fitting the mock garment and making necessary pattern adjustments. Cutting the final garment in chosen fabric.
Lesson 7 and 8 – Sewing up the final garment.
Lesson 9, 10, 11 and 12 – Pants. Making a pair of pants from a bought pattern using the techniques learnt in the previous project.
Patterns for the Shirt or Shirt Dress will be provided along with a full colour tutorial for their construction.
You will need to buy the patterns for the garment of your choice and pants projects. These can be bought from a fabric shop or online. We will discuss this all in class on the first day of the course.
